Cloth Diaper Detergents

Our list of cloth diaper detergents are based on feedback from customers and suppliers such as Bummis. The list is not a definitive - as it is meant to be used as a resource guide only. Many factors can lead to detergent residue problems such as difference in water quality, washing machines and the ratio of water to detergent. One detergent may work fine for one family, and cause problems for others. Use your own personal experience as a best guide in determining the right cloth diaper detergents for your needs. Please be aware of detergents that are specifically formulated for baby's clothes or advertised as "eco-friendly" or "free and clear". Not all eco-friendly, free and clear, and baby detergents are safe for cloth diapers. Choosing the right cloth diaper detergents will help reduce/eliminate detergent residue and prevent odor and leakage.

Unless the detergents are specifically formulated for cloth diapers, use moderate amount of detergents. If using a zero-residue detergent, stick to the lower end of the amount recommended on the package. If you are using anything other than a zero-residue detergent, use about 1/2 of what the manufacturer recommends in a top loading washing machine, and reduce 1/4 for a front loader or HE machine. This will give you enough detergent to clean properly but not enough to create a residue.  For bumGenius Diaper Detergent, Tiny Bubbles, and Thirsties Pre-Wash / Super-Wash, use the manufacturer's recommended amount.  They are specifically formulated for cloth diapers.
